Under the World GBC’s Net Zero Carbon Building Commitment, the municipality of Medellín is committed to ensure that new buildings operate at net zero carbon by 2030 and that all buildings operate at net zero carbon by 2050. The city council has created the Medellín Green and Sustainable City policy to promote sustainable construction, energy efficiency, and growth of urban and rural green areas.
Medellín is the second largest city in Colombia, located in the Aburrá Valley Region of the central Andes. In recent years, city leadership has developed ambitious climate targets in line with nationally determined goals. Medellín is a member of the C40 Cities initiative and Net Zero Carbon Buildings. The Colombia Green Building Council (Consejo Colombiano de Construcción Sostenible – CCCS) leads the coordination of local BEA activities.
